Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy
the ride after the change of the board wich is now at about ratio 0.85 (board <> wheel> is almost perfect.
the handling is great and i think that speed (when i get the oppertunity)
will not be an issue.
it feels right, safe and emergency braking was not a problem and wasn't scared of an eject.
i was also thinking about a fixt position next to the board like you have.
but after the second testrun i don't feel the need for that yet.
maybe after a high-wind run but for now i am really pleased a glad i build it
because it is so much fun

Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy
made some progress this week:
painted the frame and used a better seat.
the old one was a Libre V-Max buggyseat and the fresh one is a Libre Fullrace.
it's bigger, newer and fits better and the old one wich was falling apart after 15 years...

Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy
started on the new footboard.
found a cool silouet of a Crab, cutted it out and drwaed it
on hard 3-ply wood, then used a handsaw to cut it out.
glued it on the board, sanded it and the first layer of paint is a fact.
in reality you see the 3-D effect much more than the photo.
template
glued the cut-out wood on the board
the result so far
looks pretty nice...
now just 2-3 more layers of paint and 2 layers transparant to finish it off,
and then the skate-board at the front is next.
to be continued.

Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy

Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy
@Pat:
ofcourse a downwind run is the safest.
But changing direction and looping to make speed is also much fun but with a risk.
The Crab is safer when driving max downwind but when you want to go fast you go big.
And the high wind back run to where you started is the most risk and a bit more than a regular bug.
As for comfort (mostly because of the riders position versus kite ) I find this more relaxing because the kite is more in front of you. I made my kitebuggy also myself and that fits my body just as good as the Crab,
like a glove so to speak...
Crabbing is almost the same but so different than a regular buggy. Fun factor is great with both and as for speed... I've managed just under 100km/h in the 'regular' but i doubt if ever do that in the Crab...

Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy
After some testruns i noticed too many times that I couldn't brace
myself enough. So I tore it a part and cut the roll bar off.
Lowerd the sidebars and made another roll bar which is higher, wider and much more steep.
The re-bar is just for temporary fix, when I found the right angle for
the rollbar I'll fix it with 22x1,5mm pipe.
(Metric..:D)
Testing it upcoming weekend (I hope) will show if this
is a good upgrade.
And ofcourse the cosmetic part also continues with the skateboard.
Logo and letters cut and glued.
First of 4 layers of black paint is a fact.
After that layers of red on the letters and logo,
finished with 3-4 layers of transparent coating.
The goal is to make just as cool as the footboard.
So little progress today, not quite as far as I hoped.
but seeing it fixed on the Crab rewards the hours
of work.

Next:
repaint the backside of the skateboard and blank spots on the frame after the upgrade

Re: the build of my version of a Crabbuggy
Slightly different because it is lighter in total.
The wheel load on the the single frontwheel
is 20 kg less than the single back wheel on Crab 1.
the steering wheel load is 6kg more on each wheel
on Crab 2 so it feel more like it is on a train rails.
But both Crabbies are still operational since the seat-frame part isn't modified and can be used
on both Crabbuggy's
